Welcome to The Duckie Life

Hello - Welcome - We are so thrilled you are taking the time to be with us and to get to know us. You’re giving us a chance - thank you. We are Steven Cox and Daniel Silver. We have been designing Duckie Brown since September 2001 and are lucky to be able to do what we love—make beautiful clothing here in New York City.

Over the past 23 years, our philosophy has evolved from “What’s appropriate for men to wear?” to "Isn’t everything appropriate for everyone to wear regardless of gender, sex, color, age, season, or size….?” As the conversation has shifted, so have we.

Duckie Brown has been sold around the world at the very best retailers, including Barneys (RIP), Harrods, and Maxfield. Along the way, we have been recognized by the CFDA several times and have had successful collaborations—Florsheim by Duckie Brown and Perry Ellis by Duckie Brown. (We have just summarized 15 years of sweat and tears and a lot of BS).

Six years ago, we decided to change how we did business, which meant no more wholesale—no more selling to other stores. We always wanted Duckie Brown to be a part of the neighborhood, not an international behemoth, so we brought everything back to our studio in the West Village.

Now, we are a small niche fashion company offering two collections a year—no sizes, no seasons—just great pieces of clothing for everyone to enjoy, all produced in New York City’s Garment District.

Everything we create is in small batches—never mass-produced. Each piece is so well crafted and very special. If you purchase something from us, it may be one-of-a-kind—or, at the most, two-of-a-kind. Customers are welcome to make an appointment to shop in our studio or to FaceTime us. We often find something from the collection that suits each person, and we are happy to fulfill special orders.

We are so fortunate to have the respect of many people in the fashion industry and to still have every collection reviewed in Vogue. But more importantly, we have the most loyal customers who truly appreciate what we do. And new people find us every season - and become our clients and friends.

And now Substack and The Duckie Life. We wanted to share more of our life — what goes into designing each collection, our inspiration, the things we do (and more importantly, the things we don’t), where we love to go and stay, what we love to see and eat, all the great little shops and designers we’ve discovered around the world…. and of course - WHAT TO WEAR. Oh my, that is always the biggest question, especially for Duckie. So expect us to share all of our fashion with you — how to wear what we design, but also how to mix it up. I mean, does anyone want to wear one designer from head to toe? Yuk. — But that’s just our opinion….

It’s also important to us that you know we are not receiving $$$ from any person or company we mention, praise, or revile. Everything we say we love or don’t is the truth, according to us. (Well - on second thought - if you pay us a lot of say bad things about you - we might consider taking your $$$)

And speaking of truth, as you now know, there are two of us here at Duckie Brown, and we are known as the Duckies. Lots of people call us Duckie—both of us. So for The Duckie Life, we will be taking turns posting, and hopefully, over time, you’ll discover who is who—or perhaps not—and no matter.

It’s our desire to entertain ourselves and, of course, YOU, our audience. So, come with us on this journey and subscribe to The Duckie Life.

Also, just a reminder, we are on Instagram @duckiebrownduckiebrown, and you can view our most recent collection on duckiebrown.com.

We’re having the time of our lives, and we hope you will, too.
